Host families, I hope you are looking forward to welcoming your new au pair, and au pairs, I’m sure you are excited to meet your new host family!

Once you are all together, you can take the next couple of days to get to know one another.

It's good to go together to the grocery store, talk about composting and recycling in your home, explain how to use the washer, dryer, and any other important appliances in your home (including what goes into trash versus toilet!). Most importantly take time to play a game, go on a walk, and spend time together as adults and with the kids.

** AU PAIRS** My phone number is +1.303.349.5500, please reach out to me ASAP with the WhatsApp number you will use so I can add you to the group chat for Lafayette/ Louisville.

The Boulder LCC group sends out a welcome email each Friday, introducing all the new au pairs to our community of au pairs. This is a great way to connect with others! (Host families will get this email one the week of their au pairs arrival, other than that, it only goes out to au pairs!)

Au pairs cannot be alone with the children the first 3 days (that's Friday, Saturday and Sunday). This enables au pairs to get over jet lag, get oriented in the home and community and start to develop a relationship with the kids. Au pairs, this is time to spend with your host family, this isn't non-working time, it's orientation.

I'll call or message you both within 48 hours to be sure that everything went well with flights and you are all off to a good start. If there's a problem, don't hesitate to reach out to me before I call.

Please take time to review this website, especially the resources tab, which has all the information you will need to get your bank account, SSN, drivers license, etc.

When I call, I will also want to discuss your 2 week orientation, which will be due 13 days after arrival. That meeting is conducted at your home, and I need all adults and au pair(s) to be present. We can expect it to last about an hour, and does not need to be a time scheduled for your au pair to work, this is just part of the program requirement. I can often do lunchtime, after bedtime, or weekends (I have kids and a job too!) so if you want to find a few times that would work for your family we can work to get that scheduled.

I use SMS/iMessage for talking with host families and WhatsApp for au pairs.

For au pairs:

This checklist and This document are designed for au pairs to use the first few days and weeks.

For host families:

This checklist has two parts, a pre-arrival checklist, and a post arrival checklist. It will be extremely useful in the preparation phase and in the first few days of your au pair’s arrival.

This document is designed to help you to settle into life with a new au pair. This resource is best used after your au pair has had time to adjust to the flow of your life, sometime around the one to two week mark.
